Product Description

The Sydney Language was first published in 1994 by the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) in the Australian Dictionaries Project. In 2018 the Australian band, The Preatures fundraised on behalf on The AIATSIS Foundation to gather enough money for a reissue of the dictionary. The Sydney Language wouldn’t have been possible without their assistance.
This book was written to revive interest in a long extinct Aboriginal language of the Sydney district and to make readily available the small amount of surviving information about the language. Author, Proffessor Troy refers to the language as simply ‘the Sydney Language’ however, it has also been known as Dharug and Iyora. This book covers a range of topics from Animals to fruits and will appeal to readers that want to learn a local language.
